Making all the wrong moves

The NFL has changed drastically in the past few weeks, with big name receivers leaving their not so humble homes in hopes for new life. A new life in different cities, different teams, and different divisions.

Santonio Holmes went to the New York Jets for a fifth round pick in this years draft. Brandon Marshall went to the Miami Dolphins for a second round pick in this years draft and a second round pick in next years draft. Anquan Boldin went to the Baltimore Ravens for a third and fourth round pick in this years draft.

So of course as the idiot Bears fan I am, I got to thinking, "Why in the hell have the Bears not been in on these deals?"

One of these guys should be in a Bears uniform standing next to Jerry Angelo's dumb ass and Lovie Smith during a Chicago Bears press conference. One of these guys should be answering questions about Mike Martz and Jay Cutler. One of these guys should be buying endless bottles of the "Jay-Z Liquor of the Week" at some Chicago night club. One of these guys should be a Bear.

If you follow the NFL, you know that the Bears are marching out Devin Hester, Johnny Knox, Devin Aromashodu, Earl Bennet, Rashied Davis, Eric Peterman, and the brilliant Juaquin Iglesias.

Out of all those names, can someone tell me where a Super Bowl MVP is (Santonio Holmes)? Where a three time Pro Bowler and Offensive Rookie of the Year is (Anquan Boldin)? Or where a guy that has caught 100 passes in the past three seasons is (Brandon Marshall)?

Yeah I don't see them either.

Considering that these guys were acquired for draft picks that the Bears have (becides Marshall), why didn't "Mr. Money Bags" Jerry Angelo trade for one of these guys? Does he honestly think that he can get a Santonio Holmes or Anquan Boldin in the third or fourth round? I don't think so. I know this year features one of the most deepest drafts in the past 10-15 years, but come on Jer.

I understand that Angelo has a tendency to draft "well" in the later rounds of the draft, but the wide receiver position is one of the key positions that need to be filled. The Bears need a prime time pass catcher, especially with the new Mike Martz offense. Boldin and Holmes would have fit in perfectly.

The Bears are more than one good receiver away from being the cream of the crop in the NFC North, but having a guy that can actually make a catch across the middle or run the right route preventing Jay from throwing a bullet into the Twilight Zone can add a lot to a team like the Bears.

Honestly, it makes me sick. Chicago's receivers are not receivers. They are converted special team guys (this project has turned one of the most dangerous return men the NFL has ever seen into an expendable/decent wide out. Was it worth it Lovie? I don't think so). How doesn't the front office see this?

But a fifth round pick for a Santonio Holmes is worth it, even if he has a blemished record. Seeing that the front office has already invested the world in Jay Cutler, the least Angelo could have done was got his quarterback a respectable wide out that forces a double team from opposing defenses, leaving the speedy Johnny Knox and Devin Hester open across the middle.

But hey Jerry, it's your job, not mine. Enjoy searching for a new one next year. Your head was already wanted on a silver platter in Chicago, I can only imagine what is going to happen this year.

Jerry Angelo GO TO YOUR ROOM!

I have to agree with you that the bears need to be making some trades especially on offense. They didn't make any splashed in the draft. The only notable offensive player taken was the quarterback from Northwestern. Cutler needs someone to throw to and I would have thought Martz would have been really pushing for someone too. Maybe he thinks he can do it all by himself.
I just read that the bears signed 12 free agents, one is the Michigan running back brandon minor and UNI free safety Quentin Scott. I don't know much about Scott but I'm rooting for him none the less. You can get some quality players from the players who don't get drafted. Look at my Cowboys, Romo and Miles Austin both didn't get drafted and turned into big time players. I don't think they did a good job this offseason, but it isn't over with yet. By the way Bears fans, week two you're catching a beat down when you have to travel to Dallas.
