I have yet to comment on the Chicago Bears draft a few weeks ago and honestly I'm not going too. There is no need for me to go on record with what I think about guys that I don't really care about. Maybe once July roles around, I'll give my opinion, but figuring out who is going to be a star out of all the Bears late round draft picks is like figuring out which one of Tiger's 100-misstresses will come out with either a sex tape or a reality show on VH1. Would I like the unformentioned rookies to become quality playmakers down the road, undoubhtably, but I'm not getting caught counting my chickens before they hatch again.
With that said, I do want to draw upon one player who has gotten quite a bit of attention ever since he was drafted out of Central Michigan: Jonah's PS3 online dynasty signal caller, Dan LeFevour.
The Lisle native just got done with his first NFL rookie camp and the front office does not seem to be overly thrilled with the prospect. Considering the "Almighty Wise One", Jerry Angelo, was quoted as saying the team is "still exploring" the possibility of nabbing another quaterback.
After hearing that quote, I would hate to be Caleb Hanie and LeFevour right now. Nobody in this league wants to be stuck under the Jedi mind games of Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith.
It also makes me worried that Jay Cutler was a giant kick in the balls that continues to give us that "I'm going to hurl, I'm going to hurl" feeling; an effect that will hurt the Bears well after 2013.
But LeFevour, who was mostly throwing the ball out of the shotgun in the Chippewa's spread system is surely not the guy Angelo and Smith are going to play career Russian Roulette with. Some may have caught the "LeFevour", but I don't think this kid has what it takes to even beat out Hanie for what could be the third spot on the depth chart (that is if the Bears land a veteran free agent).
Sure he was one of the most decorated college quarterbacks in the past few years, but I could throw any quick athlete with an accurate arm behind center in a spread offense and I would bet he could rack up the yards as well.
I don't hate Dan LeFevour, and I hope he does well in his home city, but lord knows being the quaterback in Chicago is like being Justin Bieber in Disney World; good luck not cracking.
Enjoy the practice team young sir. But look at the bright side, you wont have to be under Chicago's heat lamp over an entire season because your recievers cannot seem to run a proper route which results in pick, after pick, after pick, after pick, after pick, after pick, after pick, after pick, after pick, after pick, after pick, after pick, after pick.
Get the picture yet? No? Well, I've seen six year old flag football players run better routes than Johnny Knox and Earl Bennett ran last season. Half of Cutler's interception were because the Bears "quality" recievers don't seem to know the different between a fade route and an in route, something I've complained about before (check it out here).
But Dan, if that doesn't get your motor running think about this, your probably better than big fat JaMarcus Russell at this point, and he was the number one draft pick only three short years ago.
